Fox River Warmth, Thoughtfully Installed

You can enjoy a fireplace that matches the craftsmanship of your home instead of fighting it. Geneva, the Kane County seat, is known for its historic homes and walkable streets along the Fox River, and many of those houses have hearths that need restoration or a better heat source. Midwest Agri-Com offers fireplace design and installation, as well as wood and pellet stoves, to homeowners who care about both looks and efficiency. We also supply local woodworkers, metal artists and contractors with welding consumables, new welders and repair service for the machines they rely on. Farms farther west in Kane County turn to us when they need grain handling and drying equipment. Stop at our Route 71 showroom in Ottawa to talk through ideas and walk out with a free in-store estimate.

Our Service

Fireplace Craftsmanship and Practical Shop Supplies

You get a hearth built to last and finished with materials you will enjoy for decades. We design fireplaces around hand-finished wood mantels, cultured stone, brick and traditional masonry, then supply screens, tools and accessories. Every project starts with a conversation about how you use the room. For homes that need more heat, compare wood, pellet, gas and corn stoves built in soapstone, cast iron or steel. Restoration is a big part of our work in older neighborhoods, from repairing firebrick to fitting new liners. Out in the shop, we stock plasma cutters alongside electrodes, filler rods, welding wire, torches, handles and fuel kits, with sales and repair for welding machines. Grain customers rely on our design and installation of unload systems, in-bin drying, elevator legs, bin stairs and stirring machines.

Can I update my fireplace facing without tearing out the firebox?

In most cases, yes. If the firebox and flue pass inspection, the surround can often be refaced with cultured stone, new brick or a fresh wood mantel while the working parts stay in place. Plenty of older Geneva homes have dated brick that hides a solid fireplace underneath. Have the chimney checked first so the new finish is not covering a problem.

How often should a wood stove and chimney be inspected?

For dirty or rusty steel, a 6011 electrode digs in deep and handles less than perfect fit-up. For clean steel and stronger, smoother welds, 7018 is the go-to choice, though it needs dry storage. Many welders keep both on hand and choose based on the condition of the metal and the strength required.
