Real Help for Genoa Farms

A stick welder strong enough to patch a cracked loader bucket is often the first tool a Genoa farm shop buys, and it is a good place to start a conversation with us. Genoa sits in the northeast part of DeKalb County, where open fields, gravel lanes and older farmhouses still define much of the landscape. That mix means your list probably includes grain handling and drying equipment, welding equipment sales and service, and a way to heat a house that takes the full force of winter wind. Midwest Agri-Com has helped rural families with all of it for decades. We carry wood and pellet stoves, handle fireplace sales and installation, and stock the electrodes, filler rods and torches a busy shop goes through. Make the drive to Ottawa, look at the equipment in person and leave with a free in-store estimate.

Our Service

Farm, Shop and Hearth Expertise

Most of our customers run more than one kind of project at a time, so we built our business to cover the whole property. For grain, our crew designs and installs stirring machines, in-bin drying, bin stairs, elevator legs and unload systems, then comes back for repair and maintenance when something wears. For the shop, you can pick up plasma cutters, welding wire, handles, fuel kits and cutting torches, and you can bring a tired machine in for service rather than replacing it. For the house, pick a stove fueled by pellets, wood, corn or gas, built from steel, cast iron or soapstone, or a fireplace dressed in brick, cultured stone, masonry or a wood mantel. Fireplace tools and accessories finish the job. Genoa homes tend to be older and exposed on open ground, so we pay close attention to stove sizing, draft and venting. Every installation includes the inspection and follow-up you would expect.

Should I use MIG or stick welding for repairs around the farm?

Stick welding is usually the better choice for outdoor farm repair because wind does not blow away the shielding, and it handles rusty or painted steel well. MIG is faster and cleaner indoors on thinner, clean material. Many farm shops keep a stick machine for field work and a MIG unit for fabrication on the bench.

How many stirring machines does a grain bin need for good drying?

An insert fits inside an existing fireplace and turns an inefficient opening into a real heat source while keeping the hearth look. A freestanding stove radiates heat from all sides and can go almost anywhere with proper clearances and venting. Your floor plan, chimney condition and heating goals decide which makes more sense.

Is a fireplace insert or a freestanding stove better for heating an older house?
