Sales and Services
Built Around Herscher's Farm Calendar
Quiet winter months and nonstop harvest weeks set the rhythm around Herscher, where Kankakee County cropland reaches right up to the village edge. Most of the year, your attention is on the fields, bins and the equipment that keeps them moving. That makes reliable grain drying gear, along with a well-stocked welding setup, more than a convenience. Once the combine is parked, the farmhouse takes center stage, and a wood or pellet stove can cut the chill in older rooms that never quite warm up. Our Ottawa-based crew works across five service areas: grain handling and drying, welding consumables, welder sales and service, fireplace sales and installation, and stoves that burn wood or pellets. Stop at the showroom on Route 71 when you are in the area.
Our Service
Grain Handling and Shop Welding
Patching a worn auger is quick work, but redesigning an entire bin site takes planning, and our team handles both ends of that range. For grain, you can count on design and installation of drying floors and in-bin systems, unload equipment, elevator legs, stirring machines, handling components and bin stairs, plus ongoing repair and maintenance. The welding counter carries electrodes, welding wire and filler rods next to torches, handles, fuel kits and plasma cutters, and machines are available with sales and service support. Indoors, fireplaces feature masonry, cultured stone, brick or wood mantel designs with tools and accessories to finish the look. Stove options span pellet, corn, gas and wood models in soapstone, steel and cast iron. Consultations, installation, construction and inspection all come from one source, which keeps your project simple.

your questions answered
Find answers about our products and services.
What moisture level should I dry my corn to before storing it?
It depends on how long the corn will sit. Grain you plan to sell over the winter is commonly dried to about 15 percent, while corn held into spring or summer usually needs to come down further, often to 13 or 14 percent. Drying too far wastes fuel and shrinks bushels, so match the target to your marketing plan.
Can I repair cracked cast iron parts with my farm shop welder?
Gas fireplaces start with a switch, need little cleanup and deliver consistent heat, which suits busy households. Wood fireplaces offer the crackle and smell many people love, but they require firewood storage, ash removal and regular chimney sweeping. Your schedule, fuel access and the look you want should guide the decision.
Is a wood-burning fireplace or a gas fireplace easier to live with?
