Equipment for the County Seat

You can bring in a drier, better-keeping crop when your handling system is built for the volume you grow. Kankakee, the county seat, sits along the Kankakee River with I-57 running past town, surrounded by some of the most productive corn and soybean ground in the state. Midwest Agri-Com supports those farms with grain handling and drying equipment and keeps busy farm shops stocked with welding supplies, new machines and repair service. In town, older homes and newer builds alike benefit from our fireplace sales and installation and our wood and pellet stoves. Prairie wind across open fields makes winter heating a real concern. Make the trip northwest to our Ottawa showroom on Route 71 and leave with a free in-store estimate.

Our Service

Full-Service Grain, Welding and Hearth Support

You get one team that can handle a dryer upgrade in October and a stove install in November. For grain, we design and build unload systems, bin stairs, elevator legs, stirring machines and in-bin drying systems, with repair and maintenance to keep them reliable. Our welding inventory includes spools of welding wire, stick electrodes, brazing and filler rods, cutting torches, handles, fuel kits and plasma cutters, and we also sell new welders and fix them when problems arise. During harvest, quick access to parts and repair help can keep trucks rolling and dryers running. Hearth customers can choose fireplaces with brick, masonry or cultured stone and a wood mantel, plus tools and accessories, or pick a cast iron, steel or soapstone stove that burns wood, corn, pellets or gas. Inspection, construction and restoration services complete the picture.

Our Services and products

Why Kankakee Relies on Our Family

As the Kankakee County seat, Kankakee mixes city neighborhoods with farm ground on every side, so we keep the process simple for both. Your visit starts with personalized expert consultations, where we ask how many acres you farm, what you weld or which rooms run cold. Free in-store estimates come next, giving you real numbers to compare well ahead of harvest or heating season. The same Ottawa family has been serving customers since 1975, and you can lean on an experienced sales team that has spent decades installing dryers, setting up welders and fitting stoves. We keep pricing competitive on quality products, from electrodes to full drying systems, without steering you toward more than you need. After installation, professional service covers repairs, inspections and seasonal maintenance. That dependable follow-through is what local farms and families tell us they value most.

What moisture level should corn be dried to for long-term storage?

For storage through winter, corn is commonly dried to around 15 percent moisture, and lower, around 13 to 14 percent, if you plan to hold it into summer. Drier grain resists mold and insects. Aeration fans should keep the bin cool and even, and regular checks help catch hot spots early.

Does a steel stove or a cast iron stove heat a room faster?

A good field kit includes oxygen and fuel cylinders sized for transport, regulators, hoses, a torch handle with cutting and heating tips, a striker and safety gear. Check hoses and fittings for leaks before each use. A compact kit lets you cut, heat and braze broken equipment where it sits instead of hauling it back to the shop.
