Sales and Services

Old Hearths, New Heat, Solid Shops

You keep the character of an older home and gain real warmth when the hearth work is done with care. Lockport's historic downtown, with its limestone buildings along the I&M Canal, sets the tone for a town that values craftsmanship, and many nearby houses still have original masonry fireplaces that deserve attention. Our team at Midwest Agri-Com brings fireplace sales and installation, restoration, and wood and pellet stoves to those homes. We also support Lockport fabricators, contractors and farmers with welding supplies, welding equipment sales and service, and grain handling and drying equipment for the fields beyond the growing suburbs. You can visit our Ottawa showroom on Route 71 to see materials in person and leave with a free estimate.

Our Service

Restoration, Installation and Shop Supply Expertise

You protect an investment when restoration is handled by people who understand masonry. We repair and restore brick and stone fireplaces, fit modern stoves into older chimneys, and build new hearths with cultured stone or a hand-finished wood mantel. Stove buyers can compare soapstone, cast iron and steel models that burn wood, gas, corn or pellets. In the shop, you will find oxy-fuel torches, fuel kits, handles, electrodes, filler rods and welding wire, plus plasma cutters for fast, accurate cuts. We sell welding machines and service them when they need repair. For grain operations, our crew designs and builds elevator legs, bin stairs, unload systems, stirring machines and in-bin drying setups. Inspection and maintenance keep every installation safe long after the work is finished.

Can an old masonry fireplace be restored to safe working condition?

In many cases, yes. Restoration usually starts with an inspection of the firebox, damper, smoke chamber and chimney. Cracked firebrick can be replaced, mortar joints repointed and a new liner installed to improve safety and draft. Some homeowners add an insert during restoration to get far more heat from the same fireplace.

Is a soapstone stove better than a cast iron wood stove?

Most stick and MIG work at common shop amperages falls in the shade 10 to 13 range, and higher amperage calls for a darker lens. Oxy-fuel cutting is far dimmer and usually needs shade 4 to 6 goggles or a filter plate, while plasma cutting sits roughly between shade 5 and 9 depending on amperage. An auto-darkening helmet with an adjustable range covers most arc welding jobs.
